Anti-Inflammatory, Antinociceptive, Antipyretic, and Gastroprotective Effects of Eurycoma longifolia Jack Ethanolic Extract

Tongkat ali (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) (ELJ) is a plant in the Simaroubaceae family. Its roots are used traditional Thai medicine to treat inflammation, pain, and fever; however, antiulcer abilities of its ethanolic extract have not been studied. This study examined anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, antipyretic, gastroprotective effects ELJ animal models found that effectively reduced EPP-induced ear edema dose-dependent manner high dose inhibited carrageenan-induced hind paw formation. In cotton-pellet-induced granuloma formation, suppressed increases wet weight but dry or transudative weight. formalin-induced nociception study, had significant inhibitory impact. Additionally, yeast-induced hyperthermia could be significantly by antipyretic action at highest ELJ. all gastric ulcer induced chemical substances physical activity, extracts 150, 300, 600 mg/kg also prevented pyloric ligation model, on volume, pH, total acidity were statistically insignificant. These findings support current widespread use Eurycoma Jack medicine, suggest plant’s medicinal potential for development phytomedicines with properties, treatment ulcers due properties.
